I owned an 01 ML 430 and it was horrible as far as repairs and reliability goes. Probably one of the least reliable vehicles I've ever owned. It was under warranty till the end and I started to pay out of my own pocket.

Replaced it with an 06 BMW X5 4.8is.

The BMW has been incredibly reliable (owned it for 16 months now) with only a peeling film off part of the steering wheel.

My advice for any of these high end suvs is to get one under warranty or purchase an extended warranty.

Repairs are not going to be inexpensive out of warranty and if they are transferrable then you can recoup some of that cost or make it more attractive to purchase vs. one without one.

Ha ha. The Range Rover...the only car that's pretty much guaranteed to be more of a pain in the butt than the X5!

LIONEL1234554321 is an unknown quantity at this point
I WILL TAKE THE TOUAREG V6 RATHER THAN THAN THE X 3.0 D. BUT IF THE CHOICE CONCERNS THE V8 IT WILL BE A DIFFERENT STORY: X5 4EVER

I'd take x5 over cayenne any day. I think the ride too rough. Plus the front end kind of makes me laugh when I see the headlights. lol.

but to each his own.
