Transmission Question

Need advice...

My 05 (Diesel) has a noticeable not so smooth final downshift when almost stopping at lights etc. that gives the car a little lurch foreward.

I have been told by someone not to worry as this is just gearbox wind up and is a common characteristic for my car. Is this the case? Is anyone else experiencing this "common" characteristic. If so would a transmission software upgrade fix this???? or do I have yet another problem about to rear its ugly head...

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
I'm not a tranny guy but I think I'm smart enough to know that that's not normal and BMW didn't intend that to be it's "common characteristic". Has this action been there before or is this something new? I would have my dealer check it out.

Just got off the phone with BMW Service Dept. They said that they would have to inspect the colour of the oil and if required change it ( and a pan gasket) at my expense and change the adaption ( I assume upgrade the software). They said that due to it being out of warranty I would have to foot the bill. He said althought it shouldnt effect the gearbox, that most customers get it done because its annoying. I really think they should foot the bill as it is obviously a factory defect.

I might try the ol transmission adaption reset thing and see if that makes any difference seing as though BMW were too busy to ring me back with a price...

Found this on another forum The "hold down accelerator for 25s" trick for smoother shift - E60 Forums

I had the exact same probelm. I took it to the dealer, they said they have reset the transmission and upgarded the software. It costed me around $270.0. But I am still having the same problem.

transmission issue

i had the same issue with my e 53 4.4... it used to be notice when u drive for 30 min or..i guess when oil get warm... too bad... the all of a sudden... the car wouldnt drive and there was excessive slippery in the tranny.. and the emergency progam was engaged.. i took it to the dealer.. and he said... u need to get ur transmission fixed...
i wonder how such a transmission failure would happen in one day. .without previous notices. unless they consider this disturb in downship .. a start to complete tranny failure... my car is still at dealer.. i took the tranny for ZF dealer to refurbich.... headach..
so guys.. be careful.. i believe changing oil.. is a recomended...
good luck

it actually is normal after a couple years. my transmission mechanic said its not worth to fix just that because it doesnt affect the transmission as a whole. your tranny wont fail because of this issue

I have the exact same problem in my '05 X5 3.0d. I hadn't noticed test driving because I hadn't driven it long enough for it to warm up properly I suppose. The problem doesn't happen at all if I switch to sport mode, which makes me have a little bit of confidence that there's SOME chance it could be a software issue.
I will try the reset trick today and let y'all know if it works.
Cheers,
Scott.
