It also applies to maintenance free batteries that are not AGM.
"To improve the quality of battery charging on BMW vehicles, the charging voltage on approved BMW chargers has been increased to 14.8 volts." |

How long you plug it in really depends on the condition of your battery (i.e. it's age, how often it gets properly charged from the alternator, etc.) During the winter I'd at least plug it in once to top up the battery fully, especially if the battery were 4+ years old. A 12 hour charge or more from either unit should be good enough to do the trick and help keep you from getting stranded. According to CTEK, the bulk step of the Multi US 3300 will take typically betwen 23-26 hours to achieve 80% state of charge, however that is with a pretty depleted battery. You can also connect a CTEK comfort indicator (they have several options for this, see below) which will tell you when the battery needs to be charged.

I was thinking about getting one of these for my Merc. Are they now compatible with each other? How often do you use these? I sometimes leave my Merc sit for 4 to 5 days at a time, should I use this? The BMW is way more fun to drive and less expensive.

I'm sure either would work just fine with your Mercedes, though honestly I can legally say no more given this is a BMW board.
In all seriousness, CTEK makes the Mercedes battery charger as well. Last edited by X5 Meister; 02-26-2010 at 02:12 AM. |

Just an FYI for those looking into getting the CTEK US7002. Since the BMW battery was rated at about 90Ah, I decided to give this CTEK US7002 a try (Amazon had it for $89 back in December). I ran into an issue with this charger in that it kept cycling through the charging modes repeatedly instead of just between float/pulse mode when the battery is fully charged. Found that a few people on the Porsche forum were having the same issue and CTEK had to replaced their units. I ended up returning the US7002 and got the US3300 to replace it. The US3300 is working perfectly so far in the 14.4V mode that I've used. I have not tried the 14.7V mode as that is only recommended for temperature dropping below 41F, which doesn't happen very often in So Cal.

I picked up the CTEK US3300 a couple years back. I just leave it plugged into the car I dont drive during the week. I like the fact that its programmed to cycle the battery and can be left unmonitored. Never have had a problem since day one.

Just curious, do you use the cigarette lighter or jump start terminals?
