Some of us do own multiple dealerships. Here at Meister Motors our aim is to please and we'll sell you any X5 for $9,995 + fees (which vary between $30,000 - $70,000). Our motto is "we'll make you feel like # 1 as long as you don't feel # 2."

Thanks,
But I have also heard of other costs beings higher like insurance and gas. I want to get a 4.4 but everyone keeps talking me into a 3.0 due to high costs and lesser reliability of the 4.4.

Welcome...the IL 6 vs the V8 is a debate you won't get "solved" here in a few posts. Both engines are excellent.
The newer V8s do about as well in mpg as the IL 6, if driven carefully. The gap really narrows in the E70.

"Problems" in the IL6 vs V8 are hard to define with any real data analysis, imo. The auto trans on the V8s seems
to present more anecdotal problems, imo, but strictly from memory.

We have an '01 IL6, but with a 5 spd manual; we don't tow and I have never felt it was underpowered in any
situation we've encountered in 7 1/2 years. However, the V8 is a go getter.

If you tow, think V8...if no tow, the IL6 is a fineazz; the choice is yours. No used car pricing maven, but that
price is a tad high, imo.
Keep looking: there are lots full of them. Get a CPO covered car, if you can.

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I am not going to be towing. Just needed a car little bigger than a sedan but not as big as a esclade so the x5 fits fine.
Regarding the CPO I am trying to look for a car under the original warranty (4 year/50k miles). But to go with CPO I'll have to go through the dealership and their prices are ridiculously high vs an independent dealer who could pick me a car from a auction (which is where the dealership gets it used cars from too).

I hear you...yes, grabbing one with some orig warranty & maintenance program left is a very good idea, imo. (Warr & Maintenance are seperate issues/programs, but both will expire on any car at same time.)

A CPO will probably not be found at auction; a BMW dlr will/may CPO it after he snags it at auction or trade take in, but the price goes up on that car.

As to the IL6 vs V8 arm wrestle, I rec'd driving both; yes, the V8 is much quicker, faster and "gruntier", but the 6 is no slouch, esp. for 99% of the driving we all do.
Good Luck on your hunt...

I agree with motordavid and you are also correct. Dealer prices are higher in general and in addition you have to factor in that with a CPO you are alrady getting an extended warranty. Plus the car has been looked over per the CPO guidelines which should at least give you some assurance. I personally think CPO is the way to go especially if you plan on keeping the car a while, b/c it gives you a long warranty, you are buying the car after the original owner took the huge depreciation hit, no gas guzzler tax, etc. Plus with BMW's current financing, I really don't see how you can pass up a deal like that. If I was in the market I'd hunt a late 2005+ CPO 4.4i like a mad man. That way I'd still have the original factory warranty to get everything I wanted fixed for at least a few months, and then a nice CPO warranty for piece of mind thereafter. Plus 2005 and 2006 X5's were virtually identical as far as spec goes and late model 2005 (after about 4/2005 basically had most of the issues already fixed). All for 0.9% financing.
