X5 Sport - yes - may need a pic. I cant make much sense of the right rear of the engine bay (image attached). Aftermarket remote would be a nice option if indeed the required heater bits were there.

Am in the uk. I have the 3.0D sport and i know the heater is already there. Its a preheater to help start the car in cold weather!

So am i right in assuming that i can get a "key" or remote which will make this all work??

Come on then.. am waiting.. tell me what i need and where i can get it from??

Like i said before. Like many other X5 Diesel drivers we have the webasto preheater already installed but this option is not live on the nav screen or anywhere else on the car.

How do we activate it? is it just a remote controll we need? surely its more complicated than that

Just had email back from Webasto! Please read! It appears to be possible but only BMW supply the part! they just want to steal more of my money! Any one know if i can buy it seperatly and is it easy DIY job?

As you are aware, the BMW X5d is fitted with the Webasto Thermo Top C
fuel-burning heater as standard, which is used as a supplementary heater. In
this application, the Webasto heater only operates when the engine is running
and the outside temperature is below 5°C. In conjunction with BMW GB, we have
developed a simple upgrade, which includes the addition of a simple electrical
interface harness which will switch the heater on independently.

The parked car heater is started by a remote control device and warms the
coolant independently from the vehicle's engine.

The vehicle's blower system takes the warm air into the cabin and, at the same
time, pre-heats the engine.

Once this upgrade has been installed, it will provide pre-heating for your
vehicle prior to commencing your journey. Some of the benefits associated with
such a system are as follows:

· Warmth and comfort of a pre-heated interior - a centrally heated interior.
· Screen defrost and demist - increase safety with a safer clearer vision
through the windscreen at the start of your journey.
· Pre-heated engine - no more cold starts/easier starting.
· A pre-warmed engine - a better engine response from cold.
· Reduced engine wear
· Reduced engine emissions - lower emissions from a preheated engine.

"Just drive off straight away and enjoy your journey."

The standard installation includes full system integration with the parking
heater controlled by a Telestart Remote Control.
This allows switching on and off of the system by a remote control handset with
a range of 600 metres.

In the UK, this accessory is exclusively offered by official BMW Dealerships
under the following BMW Part Number : 95.06.0.000.010, therefore you should
contact your local BMW Dealer in order to obtain pricing.

Key Picture

Here is what the key loocks like that you get if you order aux heat not from the factory ie as retro fit.If you get it put on the car as part of your order you get a BMW logo on it too it also works slightly better some thing to do with the plumbing in and using antifreeze. I will try and take some more pics over the weekend of the bits in the car

Here is the Key
