Auxilliary ventillation
I have just treated myself to an 02 3.0D Sport and so far I'm really liking it.
Can anyone help with the following though? Auxilliary ventillation. I'm I getting this wrong or should this not warm the car up in the morning when you set the timers to come on? With the timers set the fan starts but only luke warm air comes out. The car doesn't seem to want to let me turn it on 'direct' neither. The manual reads as if you should be able to turn on the heating with it if it's less then 16 degrees outside. Am I missing something with this? On a seperate note. Is it possible to override the TV so the wife can watch it in the passenger seat when we're driving along? Any help would be great. Thanks  |
I have the same issue with the Aux ventillation. I can see the heater outlet under the left of the car so I know it is there. The timers only seem to turn on the fresh air intake (made for cooling a little in the summer) not the heater. I note on mine that according to the manual there should be a 'heat' option on the obc but I seem to have a 'stopwatch' instead. There aparently is a remote control option for the heater / Aux which would be the way to go. The First trip back to the dealer next week, so will ask them then.
No TV on mine. DS |
The aux ventilation is not meant to either heat the car nor cool it per se. The heat function only works as a temporary function after the car has been running. The heat comes from heat generated by the engine. For example, you have been driving around for awhile, stop to pop into a shop and you want to keep the car warm for a short period of time. That will work. Likewise, the cool function only serves to suck out hot air in the car and keep the temperature lower than if the interior were allowed to heat soak.
You cannot heat up the car as you are wanting nor cool it with a/c without the engine running. Oh, :welcome:. Someone feel free to correct me if my recollection is wrong. |
There are a few threads on this. With the aux heater you CAN pre warm the car on a morning say using a remote control. The aux ventilation is different and can COOL the car under timed conditions. Read your manual that came with the car or ask your dealer. the odds are if you had Aux heater installed then you would have got a remote control for it with your car (different to the remote keys you have).
Re TV, yes you can overide it, I did mine. You need a TV IN MOTION lead or similar. Look on ebay or search in google. Make sure you get one with the correct connectors on it and NOT the one you have to hard wire yourself. They are dead easy to install. |
Me too!
I have both the aux heating and cooling option with the seperate remote control. During summer, I experimented a couple of times with the remote. The problem I had was that the car would only heat the car no matter what the outside temperature was.
I just tried the remote again (its 12 degrees outside) and the car heats up. During the really hot summer days, I tried the same thing and I would get back to the car and it would be a suana! I'm taking the X in for its first service and will hound the dealership for answers. Will keep you guys posted. |
the remote is ONLY for the heater, you have to set the timers on the computer for the ventilation option.

Had the X back at the dealer today (for the first time :-) and asked if the aux heater could be activated as I was missing the 'heat' option on the computer but appeared to have the heater fitted (see picture!). Spoke with the engineer (who had a German accent which is a good sign!). He said this was not the aux heater, but just a diesel preheater which will activate in very cold conditions (like never in Australia). Hence it may look like a standard option on all the diesel models but is a different heater.
Not totally convinced, but winter is over anyway ;-) DS |
I am not sure how true this is but worth asking the question to your dealer! This is what i found out all diesels have all the parts as standard but in europe you have to buy the key to make the heater work which i can take a picture of if you like but i was told by BMW UK that US cars have to be re programed with the bmw computer and this will make them work how true this is dont know but this is what Iwas told when I tried to get mine activated for free because the salesman told me my car would have this feature as standard in the end the gave me the extra parts for free :-) You can by the kit from webasto which is not that expensive if you have the heater already there which is in the engine bay on the right hand side at the back if you are standing at the front of the car again I can take pictures for you

Was it just the remote, or are there other bits to make it all work? |
