With a load that size, 60. The x5 really had no problem pulling it out of the water. I was amazed by the low end power. Im sure its hard on the transmission though, it only has to pull the boat about 30 miles a year.

haha thats crazy. Not sure thats too safe either. I could definetly feel the boat push the car around when cornering at higher speeds.

I'm using a Hensley "Arrow" hitch interface (note the orange coloration in front of the Airstream tongue) which totally negates any sway/push from the trailer and also incorporates weight distribution. I've now pulled the Airstream over 27,000 miles without any problems whatsoever. I've also inspected the hitch attach points and they show no stress. The hitch receiver is absolutely solid, i.e. does not flex when loaded and has not bent from its original installed position.

I've come off the continental divide, passing a semi, at an indicated 85 miles per hour and the assembly never gave any controlability indications.

Go to the following web site where you can order a free video http://www.hensleymfg.com/. The hitch interface cost about $3,000; kind of pricy but when you consider the cost of your assembly its really not much for piece of mind. Its no "smoke-n-mirrors".

It totally negates sway by mechanically (no friction) locking the trailer to the tow vehicle such that the trailer absolutely cannot steer the rear of the tow vehicle. The Hensley web site explains the operation.
