glad you got it sorted, AA were good... 20 seconds! I assume starting the engine and nicking the car is somewhat harder at least due to immobiliser etc.

No offense intended but If it were public knowledge the public would know and the question wouldn't need to be asked.

Correct. I'm the general public and still don't know how to do it.

My wife managed to lock both of her keys in our e70 the other day. We have comfort access, so I'm really not sure how it happened. Anyway, she called BMW and they sent someone out to open the door free of charge even though we are out of warranty and don't have BMW Assist. I wasn't there, but she said the guy opened the drivers door with an inflatable air bag as killcrap mentioned and used a rod to hit the unlock button.

I thought everyone knew that you can get into a lock car with a "Brick" through the window.

A word to the wise that may be reading this post. If you only have one key at the moment for your X5 just do yourself a favor and order another key (spare) to avoid the embarrassment of locking your keys in the vehicle.

Oh that for sure is my plan. Unfortunately I didn't act soon enough. Hopefully I can get into the car and take it right to the dealer.

If someone could PM me some tips that would be amazing.

Thank you again in advance. I definitely learned my lesson this time around!

I'd like to hear any tips as well. I'm going to try the battery (jump box in my case) on the starter later this morning. Hopefully I'll have some success.
