That Z either wasn't trying or he missed a shift and couldn't find the right gear becuase it would smoke you as well. Mid 5's 0-60 for the 335i is probably high. BMW claims 5.3 for the manual trans and they are notoriously conservative. It is probably more like high 4's low 5's. With tuning it can be as fast as a new M3. In all honesty, your 4.4 technically isn't faster than any current 3-series offered in the US. Even a 328i automatic has a BMW rated 0-60 of 6.9 seconds. The 4.4i is 7+. Stay away from most newer BMW cars if you are trying to race. Street racing is stupid, but you should probably at least know what the other car is capable of if you are going to try to impress your friends and put your foot down.

Street racing is dangerous and I'd never do that!
We have a turnpike that usually has 4 or more toll booths per pay station and about 1/4 mile after exiting, they merge into 2 or 3 lanes depending on where you are at with a 75 mph speed limit. Sometimes I happen to be late for work or taking advantage of a full lunch hour so coming out of the toll booths I sometimes driving like... well like I am late. It just so happens that I have some co workers that must also be late or in the same situation as often as I am and don't want to be late for work either. One drives a 2003 350Z automatic, another drives a 2005 Mustang GT automatic, and another use to drive a 2003 Evo 8 but now drives a 2004 TL 6MT. Now there are times when some of us happen drop our 2 quarters at the toll and get the green light to exit the toll booths at the same time. All I have to say is that my co worker that use to drive the evo, had less time to get to work than me because he disappears before I hit 60mph, but now that he drives a TL he has exactly the same amount of time to get to work as my co worker who drives the Mustang GT which is less than the time it takes me in my 2004 X5 4.8is to travel a cars length by the time I reach the posted speed limit. But my co worker in the 350Z must have at least twice that time extra than us to get to work. Either that or he has no work ethic! |

modded.. is whole another story... my modded 335i with no traction can easily run a 12.2 1/4 mile and it looks completely stock.

The only info I have in front of me on the e53 is a 2003 BMWusa brochure that lists the 4.4i's 0-60 as 7.5 seconds. I know BMW is conservative in their estimates, but sub 7's may be pushing it a little. Either way, I wouldn't try picking on any current 3 series models at a stoplight.
