E38 to E53

I'm currently the owner of a 2001 Imola red 740i sport with 110k miles. I'm a BMW technician at a local indy shop here in Ga. I love the E38 but I've had it for 2 years now and have always loved the X5 4.6 is's. I'm just looking for opinions, rants/ raves on the E53 with this setup. We rarely see them in the shop so I haven't had the opportunity to drive more than one.

Also, what are the differences in the IS as opposed to the standard sport besides the bored M62TU, body cladding, 20's etc.

Lastly, if anyones knows the best place to find a well maintained 4.6 IS I'd love to hear about it. Also looking for a buyer of the E38 if anyone's interested. Sorry for the unintended plug. It's my first post on the site. Thanks in advance to all who reply.

-Ben

The 4.6is also has larger front brakes (not sure about rear), ///M gauge cluster with chrome rings, oval exhaust tips, some different interior fabric/leather options and so on.

The engine work was done by Alpina on the 4.6is.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I'm gonna try to get 14k for the E38. It's in excellent condition and is rare so i think it's worth somewhere in that range.

The few 4.6IS's I've looked at are in the 20-25k range with 70-90k miles on them. Is this around fair market for these? I figured SUV prices had dropped considerably with fuel prices where they are.

Thanks again for any comments, opnions, advice.

Sorry to say...I saw a 2000 model year Imola e38 true sport package with 83K miles that sold in atlanta for less than 12K. This was about 6 months ago. I'd love to have one but 14K is a bit steep. Good luck though.
