Search on here, or www.e38.org is a great resource since we share the same motors.

Let me know if the wd 40 makes the chirp go away. I have a 4.6is but im assuming the set up for the filters and fan motor are in the same place. It seems as if the chirp is under the dash and i dont really want to take the dash apart to get to the fan motor. Mine just did it again today stopped working for about 5 min and then came back on, im starting to think it is the FSR but that doesnt explain the chirp.
Thanks

I have an 89 Blazer that is my winter truck here in Boise, and it's fan went out last winter. It was an easy replacement, but even the slightest tweaking of the entire assembly would cause the whole unit to squeel and chirp. It had to be tightened evenly in a star pattern, just as you would a wheel. I'm hoping that a little squirt of some lubricant and a day of letting the smell dissipate will fix the problem. I've seen replacements done in a 7, so I doubt if the X will be any easier.

Good luck. Not sure if you'll be able to access the spot you're trying to lubricate... You can also almost see the fan from the opening for the FSR on the glovebox side. My old fan looked pretty burnt upon removal. Let me know how it goes.
