So what should i do for 90k miles service besides regual check-up and oi lchange? Should i also clean drain plugs somehow? Differential front and rear fluid? Transfer case? Spark plugs? Idle control valve? Engine oil pan gasket? Oil seperator ? Water pump? Spark plugs? Here are some things i notice : not stable idle sometimes when in D or R and foot on brake Slight vibration in gas pedal when accelerating hard or when cold car Engine cover(has oil on it,but it is not leaking,i guess from long time ago,or just spilled old one when they replacing it) So give your ideas and suggestion please ![]() Last edited by sobi6111; 10-14-2009 at 05:06 AM. |

Helluva list and reading assignment,
...Not sure why "90k miles" is some tipping point for "service", but if it was mine, I would consider: -trans case/diff fluid change,(I wouldn't touch the auto trans) -water pump; (yours appears to be orig.) -belt replacement while getting water pump replaced; I see you had that done, but worth a look. -coolant reservoir inspection, inc. fittings. I assume your car doesn't eat coolant. -the hoses that connect to oil separator, (esp. living in ID winters) -plugs appear to be orig., so if keeping it for awhile it could not hurt. -I have a manual trans, so can offer no opin on what sounds like niggling auto trans situation(s) -I would thoroughly wipe off/clean the "oil on engine cover" and keep a sharp eye for any return. -you have 3k miles on an oil change; w/proper weight oil, I would feel comfortable going through winter, but some people like very short change periods. Not trying to spend your dough; just my 50cts, and I would get it all done at an Indie or some of it DIY. GL,mD

Definitely replace the water pump. The OEM has plastic impeller blades. I put in a new one with steel blades. I replaced the thermostat and the two radiator hoses at the time too. I also replaced the temp sensor as it is cheap. The parts are not very expensive on line, and will help prevent a roadside breakdown. I then poneyed up and bought the expensive but excellent BMW antifreeze and did the full drain and replacement of the antifreeze.

At 93K+ Water Pump started leaking. Valve Cover and Timing Chain Cover (Upper) were starting to weep oil, so thought it would be a good time to replace everything that had to come off to get to the Water Pump. Replaced Water Pump, gaskets and o-rings, Thermostst Assembly, New coolant (BMW coolant); Upper and lower Radiator Hoses; Aux Fan Switch and one additional cooling hose. Replaced Upper Timing Chain Cover gaskets (O-ring-Cam Sensor, Solenoid Gasket, Timing cover seal and Strip), Replaced Valve Cover Gaskets Right & Left, Valve cover seal Washer x6 and seal-Valve Cover Nut x16. Replaced A/C Belt, Alternator Belt. It took forever.
Took it to dealer today to get it aligned, and they couldn't do the work, said I had a loose lower control arm on Pass side. I had new lower contrl arms and ball joints replaced by an indie @ 57K. Not good. Could be the extra weight from 20" summer wheels and tires or just a weak link in the supension. This is a heavy dude, and if you play you have to pay. Hope that helps you. Does anyone have a sugestion on the control arms? Any good up-grades out there that will last more than 40K?
