This is a code specific to BMW. I do not know how autozone could have deduced that it was the MAF for sure as the code description for this says "FUEL TRIM ADAPTION ADDITIVE BANK 2 HIGH". It sounds like the computer was not able to regulate the amount of fuel and air appropriately. The origin of the problem could be different things like dirty fuel filter or fuel injectors or a bad o2 sensor or could indeed be the MAF. Since you cleaned the MAF and cleared the code I would wait and see if the code comes back. It may take 50 or 100miles to come back. If it comes back I would try to clean the injection system with a good cleaner.

Weasel will become famous soon enough
fuel trim too high would be too rich... which usually ends up being the MAF as when it gets old it doesn't read properly and caused the DME to think there is a different amound of air coming in then there really is and it adjusts the fuel trim accordingly.

Maybe they had a good guess

I did a search but nothing came up. I have a 2004 4.4i. Does the V8's have a secondary mass air flow sensor/sensors? If so, where is it located. Any input is appreciated. Thanks...

No offense Weasel, but the stealership is the last place i'd ever go to purchase parts unless it's absolutely needed (little tidbits you can't find anywhere else). I got my MAF on ebay for around $80 also.

None taken

But I still get most of my parts from there, employee discount is one hell of a discount! I probably pay the same as the cheaper aftermarket parts for OEM.

ok to keep it guys updated until now the SES light didnt come back again, i guess the MAF needed to be cleaned, saved me couple bones lol... i also had my valve cover gasket changed, baby X was oiling pretty good so i had that done and now no more oil leaks i also noticed when the valves were taking off alot of slug buildup was there.. i have my oil changes done on time ( Mobile-1 & BMW oil filter) but whoever had this baby befor didnt care for this X, which made me get pretty mad about it. so i cleaned both covers and mad it spotless with any buildups that been there, but weasel am sure i have alot of slug inside the engine or the bottom of it, is there anyways i can clean that out without taking the engine apart?..
i also changed the sparks plugs and both oil vent hoses & when he pulled them out they were almost like pulling gum out & also one of them was cloged up

Try cleaning it even if the code doesn't come back on. Someone above gave great knowledge on the product to use. It can't hurt.

You're just putting off the inevitable by cleaning it.
