Just got my recall letter in the mail yesterday. They must be spreading out the notices so the dealers aren't swamped with them. Anyone else just get theirs or still haven't yet?

Why didn't you just ask the SA? You don't need the letter in your hands to get your coils replaced. I got my letter the same day this thread was posted but I already had the Bosche coils; so I didn't need mine replaced.

Finally had a chance to take my car in for this recall, along with some other things taken care of (inspection1, cup holder replacement, and brake flushed). To my surprised when I picked up my car that it stated that I already have Bosch coil...no need for replacement. WTF? Why did I get a recall letter when the car already has the Bosch coil fitted?

BTW, why do dealers get so nitpicked about getting maintenance done under BMW's dime? I asked for a brake flush and they turned me down because it won't be exactly 2 years (from the car's manufactured date) until February. Now I have to make another appointment just for a brake flush next month? Doesn't make sense for them to turn me away just being one month out..either now or next month, they still have to perform the job free of charge And when I asked for wiper blade replacements, they only replaced the 2 front blades. I guessed I have to hit them up on the rear blade next month.

While on the maintenance note, I just realized that BMW changed their coolant flush schedule to "Lifetime"! What happened to the schedule of every 4 years? How convenient that it coincide with their start of offering the 4years/50k "free maintenance" program!

Can you tell that I'm a little ticked ???

BMW has more than one coil supplier. They don't track which coils went on which engine. So, since it was possible at your date of manufacture that the non-Bosch coils had been used, they needed to physically check. They checked both of my 3.0 vehicles (Z4, X5) and both were fine, but they needed to look to know for sure.

The stickiness over maintenance is dealer-specific. When I had the Z4 in for the coils before Christmas, I got the first oil service done. It was way low on mileage, but due on time (over 1 year). They were happy to book it in. When I spoke to the service advisor while he wrote up the work order, I asked about the brake fluid, since it is due at 2 years. The car was 18 months from purchase. He looked it up, and said sure, no problem, you are 2 years from date of manufacture (which I knew, but I was letting him figure it out). They did the brake fluid change with a smile. I love it when dealers exceed expectations. Guess where I am buying my next car (though I haven't figured out which model yet).

Hmmm...I always thought all car manufacturers know exactly what parts (from exactly which supplier) went into each car they built since most every installed parts are scanned into their database during the build process? That's why they have bar codes on all of their parts, right?

Glad you found a dealer that went above and beyond, which sometimes are hard to come by.

That was my understanding too, why they have barcodes on everything (well, almost everything).
