So chaps
How can I tell if my Oct 04 3.0i has coils that need to be replaced. I had them replaced on my Z4 when one (well two, but tht's a different matter) went bad. Do I ask the dealer to check?

ASk your local dealer to check.
Here`s a site that tells you what if any recalls have been made on your car.

I got the recall letter today as well. I did however have an appointment with the dealer about 3 weeks ago and in the service paper it said that they checked my coils and they were tested being okay. But on the recall letter, it said mine was affected and how bmw would change them free of charge. hmmm should I still let them replace the coils?

Jay, If your dealer already checked it and it was the proper one fitted, then BMW will NOT swap them out for you. I, too, received a letter indicating that my X was affected, but only to find out from my dealer that the correct coils were already on there...so they did NOT replace anything.
