how to treat rust on brake rotors?

^ Got the same problem. very common. Just some sanding and high temp paint works great. I like the silver but you can use black too.

I see, you mean rust on the rotor "bell" not the brake surface. Yes, the hightemp paint is good here. Black or silver looks great. Be sure to mask off the brake surface before painting.

You can do what I did to remove the rust. I spray painted my rusty hubs using Dupli-Color - Gray Caliper/Hub Hi-Temp paint. Make sure you thoroughly sand them down before applying the pain. See before and after shot:

Post pics. I need to do this on my E92. The gray color looks nice and makes the rotors look new.

I use a silver high-temp paint to finish the hubs of the rotors I put on the rear back in 2019....



They still looked OK after 3 years use...



Last rotor set I added were fronts (in 2023) and this time I used Brembo rotors. There were nicely finished right from the factory...
