Essentially, I need 2 things:

1) A note in the package with your return mailing address and MID's problems.

2) The service paid for (money order or paypal)

I did exactly what XV8 suggested in post #9. Everyone at I spoke to BMWNA was very nice, and I of course was very complimentary & and mentioned that I hoped to be shopping for another X or 5 series someday. Four days later, they called & said "we love calling BMW owners and making their day, because we're covering your center cluster 100%, parts and labor".

Geez, it went so well on my first call to BMWNA, that now I wish I had given them a shot when the tranny cratered last year.

I am a bit concerned though, because they said they dealer that is to do the work should have called me to set up an appointment by now.

IC pixels started going out on my 2000 X5 (91k miles). Called BMW NA and they have agreed to cover 100% of the part cost. All I had to do was fax in registration, and they quizzed me a little about my BMW history. I am second owner of the car, but have had it for 10 yrs since first owner only had it six months. And I do have a long history with the local dealer doing most of my service work with them so I think that helped. Also I hinted I would be shopping for a new BMW in the next year or so.

I had same problem with my '03 e39 made ph call on 5/29 and sent by email registration they asked for (wrote nicely worded email). 2 days later got a call from a cust relations person and gave my dealer name. Was told to get appointment while on hold, got service appointment and quote of $70. 2 weeks later, dealer replaced ic and only paid $70 quoted. Car was also out of warranty.

Hi! Got the same problem with both my MID and Instrument cluster. I tried everything before buying replacements - I tried the following:

1. Purchase CD that had all the info in cleaning the ribbon etc. - DID NOT WORK FOR ME!
2. Purchase the ribbons from BMW pixel failure repairs - DID NOT WORK FOR ME! (Too complicated DIY for the type of person I am - well maybe it's really the skill level which is crucial)

I ended up finally ordering from BMW the instrument cluster for US$844 and buying a replacement unit on ebay from seller "germanaudiotech: for about US$300. I'm very satisfied! Now I can sleep! :-)

Hope this helps.
