Count me in on the detailed install, I don't mind trial and error but I have a couple of electronic additions already (2nd Alarm, IceLink) and don't want to have the crazy horn and flashing light parade for an hour until I figure out where I went wrong.

Thanks in advance

are those fog lights( L shaped) located below the brake lights?
and you mean those are just dummy fixtures for the US spec X?

They are not L Shaped, that has been caused by the camera flash on the reflectors next to the rear fogs.
The rear fogs are not activated on US spec X5's , the location in the rear lamp cluster is obviously there on all X5's world wide, but BMW does not fit either the switch unit or any wirring or the bulb and holders.
For the rest of the world rear fogs at least one is legislation has has been for some time, I did read that BMW has started offering them on the latest mini's I think, it is in the centre of the bumper. So maybe one day they will fit them on X5's here. All Land Rover,Range Rover,Saab,Audi's have fogs activated here in the US so there is always hope.

Hey Steve, I was able to get all the parts you listed except for the switch. My dealership says that it is unavailable here in the states. How do I go abouts getting this last part?! Anyone?

They work exactly as described, I need the lights to work for legal reasons when the car goes to the UK but cant understand why such a good safety feature is not fitted here in North America.

Simple they make an extra 2c per vehicle by omitting the nesessary parts.
