How many miles can I expect my 4.4 to run on the original engine/trans?
Can you share how many miles is on your X5 4.4 and if or when you have done any overhaul to it. Mine is a 100k, and I hear it may go up to 200k if it is well taken care of....
Thanks!

Engines will last as long as the owner maintains it. I'm at 87500 and she is driving perfect

No reason you can't run it to 200,000 if you maintain it properly. The engine should be fine. The transmission won't necessarily wear out, but it will be more likely to have a problem that requires repair, simply because of the longer life. Repairing a transmission is still cheaper than buying a new vehicle, if you like the car and it still meets your needs.

I am not sure about the 4.4 but I would expect it to last as long as the 3.0. I am at 276,000 on orginal motor and transmission.

I know the BMW 6 cylinders are build like rocks as in they don't break down... I've owned 325's in the past and no matter how much I would throw at them, they'd still run strong as day one given I changed the oil and babied them here and there...
I am not too familiar with the V8's but from what other posters are saying 200k should not be that far off given you maintain them. I looked into 2001 7 Series and I was amazed to see many for sale with well over 200k miles and still running strong. Given it's the same engine as the X5, we should be able to expect the same given some luck and proper maintenance.
