can't you just install the cover and leave the locking mechanism in there. its the best of both worlds IMO.

Doesnt each key have a chip with a code? Even the "wallet" key has a chip in it. Would it be possible to just cancel that key from the cars computer so it is not recognized anymore and will not start the car or unlock the doors? I remember doing that with my mercedes... just a thought goodluck

Paul Miller BMW 'removed' the stolen wallet key from the X5's system yesterday, so it will not longer start the car (whew!)
But as far as I know, the key will still open the driver's side door lock (unlike the ignition, there's no coding required to manually turn the lock cylinder in the door). I ordered the keyless door handle part from Bimmian on Wed. - and paid $22 for overnight shipping - but unfortunately they didn't get it out for shipment until yesterday ( ), so the tracking number says it will be here Monday. Looks like I'll still be sweating until then...
