So, they respect you because you own an X5? Hmmmmm...time to get new friends? Buy a car for yourself, not for someone else.

That happened to me about the 2nd day owning the car (Truck). i was stopped at lights, looking around and there was a Black X5 (identical to mine) next to me. The driver made a gesture of a lifting his hat.. i was shocked, so i did it back to him and then we took off...

Another benefit of your wheelstyle in the UK is they are great on snow and dirt cheap to replace because people often change to larger rims so these regularly come on to eBay.

Thanks... It took me 3 days before I could get over the car sick feeling from all the bumping of the balloons.. I was suprised. our roads arent that better (maybe a bit wider)... Certainly something to think about anyway before changing them, but the 19's do look better... And, i dont want run flats.. been in a car with them and felt like we were riding on the rims themselves (no, it wasnt a BM)...

Not the X. They are quite plentiful here. We get looks in the M and SL and it's nice. I wouldn't call it respect, more like admiration. But as I said before, I just like our cars and if others like admiring them as well, it's all good.

I get ya, the problem is you aint putting 'admiration' and 'respect' in the same sentence! Iam a "fan" of SL but if its one car I have been dreaming of whole my life and there it is stopped next to me by the traffic lights definately as ROB experienced, I would either nod at you or just touch the tip of my hat!... Iam not worshiping kind of respect but a "Wow big man thats the real machine you are commanding!" kinda respect. Again not go-green envy "I wish I can blow your f**king brains for driving that car!" But just appreciating that man thats some achievement especially when a car does come in cheap bits!

As for your area having X5s all over like Japanies Corollas, well, still there must be some people who admire and nod (internally!) at you unless you stay in Abu Dhabi where even school kids go to school in X5s! (Then I wouldnt definately be driving one, I would be sheikh Josh in a Lambo or something!)...
