Flipping Rear Window is driving me nuts - Callign All Experts
Driver Side Rear window only goes down intermittently (ever 20 tries or so), but goes up every time (fail-safe maybe?). I pulled off the panel and did the following Tested the switch - OK Took apart the motor and cleaned brushes and connections - OK Inspected Cables, tension is good, no fraying - OK Inspected Regulator no broken clips - OK Lubricated the hell out of everything The problem persists, short of trying a process of elimination which involves buying a new motor, regulator, pulley system I'm not sure what to do next? Any advise is appreciated. |

Hi here is the schematic for your car my best guess is that you have a bad relay in your General Module hope this helps.

Hey Rondo...well I asked for experts and if you understand that diagram I guess I got one ha ha. Anyway I believe you are right but just have 3 questions.
1. Is the relay part of the module (ie one unit) 2. If not can I just replace the bad relay in the module? 3. Where is the module or relay located? By the way it is the rear driver side door window. Thanks in advance Marc from Toronto, Canada |

Quote:
1 Test dc volts at window motor connector while operating up switch should be approx.+12V. 2 Test dc volts at window motor connector while operating down switch should be approx.-12V. The correct result is the voltage stays the same but the polarity changes from + to - 3 Next remove motor wires and connect 12v from battery etc to motor directly and observe that window moves up and down as you reverse the wires on the battery[this will prove that there is no mechanical problem ] hope this helps |

Thanks Rondo, I had a feeling it was behind the glove box because when I'm working the switch I hear a little click/whine like sound coming from that area.
Do you have any idea of how much the module is and or how hard/easy it is to change? Take care |

Hi its fairly easy to remove you need to study the 3 locking connectors to learn how to remove them via their locking lever.
I would look for used same year and matching coding index printed on GM. You might need to recode to get the same settings as before but try first. Modules are in the us $500+ range from the dealer ....read your coding numbers and start shopping around. hope this helps |
