This is my second post on this thread and I'm really seriously contemplating on ordering mine already :-) im sure there are a lot more who has mixed emotions about this project so can you guys help us decide please??

For me one of my main concerns is removing the MID. Can anyone tell us the DISADVANTAGES and ADVANTAGES of removing the MID?? I'm not sure if I'm reDy to loose the MID but at the same time I'm not sure if I even use the info coming out of the MID. Can anyone help us decide on this please? Thanks!

You can't have both!

I would think you loose the whole functionality of your board computer. Not sure if you use or if it is important for you. When my BC was in a pixel repair shop I even was not able to set the time without that box.

@StartX5 - I guess so. Just trying to weigh the pros and cons. I want to know if I can live without the BC. All the rest of the functions are in the Hualingan anyway.

@Helmuth - Exactly what I'm worried about! The BC sets the time and date for the X right? And that's the only way to do it right? If I take the X to the dealers for servicing, would they look or require my MID or do they have a system that plugs somewhere? What happens to the OBC on my instrument cluster (the pixels that run below the mileage and P R N D, would that be affected as well? Currently that's where the check this, check that, fasten seatbelts, etc. appears. Would all of that disappear if I take out the MID?

When I didn't have the MID in the car all cluster functions were working but:

I could not set date/time.
I could not set start/end time of the heater
I could not start measuring fuel consumption.

Maybe more which I did not try because I hade her the first day

EDIT: You can remove the connection to the MID to test that. Easy task - 3 minutes ...

Will do exactly that and do the tests. I was considering retaining the MID somewhere in the garage if I would ever need to set the time and date again for the OBC in the future. I don't use the heater (I'm in a tropical country) and do not measure fuel consumption that much anyway. The cellular phone function does not work in my X and everywhere you wanna go is always one hour away due to traffic

Thanks again for the inputs!

I haven't done this replacement yet, however, i was thinking to this solution if i replace the DVD/GPS for the OEM headunit MID:

I would like to keep the MID in glove box, connecting the original MID harness to an longer extension harness and keep the MID in glove box or hidding somewhere (underseat!?)

That would be promising though... a complicated procedure (referring to the wiring process!) like the idea but as I said... I'll probably just keep the MID (uninstalled ofcourse) somewhere in the garage..?

If I were you, before removing the OEM unit for the aftermarket replacement, i will set up everything work/look good. Then keep it for future uses if necessary.

Done.

I just installed the backup camera. What a pain! This is not an easy job. I wish the car was pre-wired. I will upload some pictures in case somebody would like to get an idea before starting the job.
