Great picture of the naked dashboard. Geeez! Will you be able to put things back together?!?!

I am able to derive much knowledge from this. I hope you can post some more 'naked dashboard' pix (in different angles) so that we know where to run cables and stuffs. Very useful for mods involving running stuffs under the dash and all. Thanks!
At first it didn't want to sit all the way back in the molding. I kept moving and what i found was the wires in the back I think were holding it up from dropping into place. So what I did was remove the heating cluster directly underneath the radio spot and from there I was able to get my hands under neath to move things around and slide it all the way in.

And the pictures you see are after I put everything back together. Its not that difficult to remove everything it's just slow. But I have Heat & Air conditioning. Yeah!

Can anyone tell me if this unit works with sat radio? I have the blizsafe/XM setup that connects to the CD changer and love it, I would be devastated if I had to use something else as I spent a good chunk of change on the unit. Thanks in advance!

The installs look great guys. I have a couple of questions.

How do you get to the desktop?
How do you install applications? copy from SD card?

Why did you have to connect the power antenna when you moved the original CD to the back? Doesn't the HL handle that up front?

Did they send the new harness? Exactly what does it do and do you have a screen shot of it?

Finally had the time to focus on fixing all my Hualingan problems this weekend. I FINALLY OPENED UP THE HUALINGAN UNIT (didn't care about the waranty anymore because the guy where I bought it from is giving me a difficult time as well!).

I previously assessed the Hualingan like this...

These are NOT working as they should:

1. GPS - can't get it to work. It's looking for a Garmin GPS and stalls.
2. Bluetooth (Phone) - I can call, I can pair my iphone 3GS and Blackberry Storm 2, but the person on the other end cannot hear my voice! Maybe the MIC is not functioning or there is a setting I haven't discovered.
3. Chinese characters on the iPod interface intead of the words; Playlist, Artists, Albums, Genres, Songs, Podcasts, etc.etc.

Scale of 1-10 Happiness level on the Hualingan? 7 as of the moment. If the GPS and Bluetooth will be solved, it will be a 9. I will reserve the reason why I'm not giving it a 10

1. Now the GPS is working but since the HL unit has a very small onboard memory, the GPS is crappy. Scale of 1-10 for a GPS I'd give it a 5.

2. Regarding the Bluetooth missing audio, this is the exciting part where I'm sharing a DIY to all of you ther who have problems with the audio quality as well as those who would like to install an external MIC (I think fmugur/flor wants to do this). This is for you guys...

Then...

Finally...

Now the other end of the line can hear me LOUD and CLEAR! (mounted the external MIC/clipped it on the sunvisor.

I also found out that the 3.5 earphone jack at the back is really an external TV antenna port. SO I connected a 3.5m male earphone jack, extended the wire and tapped it to a magnetic tv antenna that luckily I have a spare from a portable dvd/tv player that came with an external tv antenna!

3. Chinese characters on the iPod interface intead of the words; Playlist, Artists, Albums, Genres, Songs, Podcasts, etc.etc I did every programming instructions from Hulingan seller but THEY (Chinese Characters) ARE STILL THERE...but I don't mind anymore this is a very minimal flaw for me. Scale 1-10 happiness level on the iPod interface is a 9.

One final note on NOT having the OBC functions: the BMW dealers said they could not re-program my X because it does not have the OBC anymore. Even if I did install the OBC for them to program something, they said the programming will all be lost if I remove the OBC again. So I FINALLY did a DIY and re-installed the MID/OBC inside the glove compartment. I extended the connector using different colors of RCA plugs so that I don't get confused when I reconnect them. I cut them one-by-one and connected them one-by-one as well so that I don't get to short circuit anything (better safe/slow than sorry). Here's the final look of my glove compartment now...

Now my score with the Hualingan is final at 8. Why short of 2 points. 1st Point; My Chinese GPS (Garmin) Clone which is just as small as my wallet packs more GPS functions than the bricked sized Hualingan! 2nd: The guy who sold it to me ran out of solutions and said I open up the unit instead of replacing it! What kinda service was that??? Self service warranty??? Finally my 3rd point is the Chinese characters on the interface which I said didn't bother me "that much". So it's a 10 - 2 crucial points = 8! Hope this helps. Cheers!
