is it a bad fan clutch, pulley or the water pump?

My X5 has started making a strange squeaking noise when the car is running. When I start the X, I notice the sound coming from the area located by/between the fan/fan clutch/fan bolt/water pump pulley. After turning off the X, the sound will continue until the fan stops moving (5sec after X shuts down). I've just ordered ($48) the tool to remove the fan itself. Will the fan clutch make a squeaking noise when it goes bad? or does the pulley bearings go bad and make this sound. Or possibly the pump? I don't have much time to fix this problem...so I want to get it right the first time. Thanks!

It sounds like the water pump bearing. Time to replace it.

Could be anything on the belt really. My e36 was recently making a strange noise when running and it was the alternator.

So - The noise continues with the engine is turned off right? Is the elec. aux fan still running during this time of noise?

Not sure if the fan clutch would make that noise.. afterall it is liquid filled I believe. I'm leaning towards one of the fans or any moving parts post engine shut-down.

The only thing that runs after the engine is shut off is the electric fan. the squeek would be it's bearings.
