The wheels are fine, repainted a few weeks ago. Like new. We take out the Atturos and back to the used Michelins and guess what? No problems with balance. Runs like a champ.
Its a quality problem, for sure. I'm out, sorry. Atturos is not a X5 tire, def. Chris |

I got my tires mounted and one required a ton of weights. I called onlinetires.com and wanted clarification if there was an issue with the tires being out of round or not. They told me to drive them and if there were issues to have the tire shop rotate the tire 90 degrees and rebalance. I took it out last night for the first time with them mounted and hit 80 with no shakes.
I'm not happy with how much weight they had to use but as of now seems to be fine. The other 3 required 2-4 weights. If you order from onlinetires.com, I would call and see if they are in stock before you order....it took a month for me to get mine.

I just want to throw my 2 cents worth in.
I have (HAD) 20" Staggered with Atturos and they are the worst tire I have every had. They are so noisy, and hitting water on the road makes for a very slippery time. I have travelled on mud and the whole back end started to fishtale before the traction control took over (never had this with Michelins and I was only going 20 kph). With the tread on them, it seems to be holding the car back, free rolling was limited. Since the 20" rims/tires was killing the car (extra load killed the transfer case, another story), I switched back to the 17" with Michelins and couldnt believe the difference, you could hear no road noise unless on a really bad road. Here in Australia, I could have paid a few hundred dollars more all up for Bridgestone Duelers which I think would have been a much better choice. The only two good things about the Atturos is that (1) after about 7000km, no wear on them at all and (2) the chunky edges protect the rims if I accidently get too close to the gutter. |

going to 17 inch rims from 20,s is going to massively quieten the road noise no matter what car or tyre, going to 17,s from 20,s is also a massive step BACKWARDS in handling so makes your assessment somewhat irrelevant

The only irrelevant thing in this topic is someone like youself that can't even face the fact that people dont agree with you, and if you think they are good tires, then you obviously dont use the car is it should be used. Does your partner or yourself just drive the kids to school then back home.. sounds like it??? And, I get much better handling from the 17" with Michelin than I ever did with the 20" with Atturos.. you only have to do a search to understand the 20" handling only comes into play at certain speeds and conditions we are never allowed to acheive on Australian Roads. As I said, the tires are crap for me and for people that know how to drive their BMW's. I have used them and they dont even come close to anything used before. I never said i went from 17" to 20" then back to 17". The 20" had Michelen on them when I bought them (unfortunately only 30% tread left) but even with that tread left, I NEVER had an issue with the car, power, aqua planing or slipping in mud until I had to replace them and went with Atturo's as recommended by some people. If you are only driving highway or standard metro roads, then you wont see any issues these tire exhibit (like all tires would then seem to be the same). Try real driving with your X5! And, I was never having a go at anyone that liked the tires such as yourself. Each to his own. Why is it so hard for you to accept people arent having a go at what you like, but just telling the truth with their experiences? Different drivers will always have different experiences. I did actually agree with your statements about where the tires are made and the price here in Australia, but if you got off your arse and did a bit of searching, you would find that WE can get better tires for the same price (as has been quoted by several people). You obviously got the tire before I did, so maybe you got tires from a good batch. Oh. BTW.. I am not a young guy.. Ive been involved with cars for nearly 30 years. As they say in Australia, give the other hand a go... Sorry to the other members of this forum.. I tried to give my experience but people like BIGWAVE obviously just cant take it that people dont like what he bought. And reading the posts, Im not the only one with the same opinion. |

Sorry i assumed from this comment of yours that you had returned to 17 inch wheels hence my comment re performance, (your words) "Since the 20" rims/tires was killing the car (extra load killed the transfer case, another story), I switched back to the 17" with Michelins and couldnt believe the difference, you could hear no road noise unless on a really bad road."
And in reality i have had an excellent run with the Atturo tyres, and yes i drive up and down the freeway, i do 37,000 km per year and have had these tyres for about 16 months and they have handled as i have described else where and are only now showing signs of wear, especially the edges of the front tyres ( damed roundabouts) as for driving it as designed you will have to enlighten me there, to me its just an extremely competent road car , and in my case extremely fuel efficient being a second generation diesel. if i want to go off road or beach driving i have a real 4x4 for that task, one with lift and low range sorry if i offended you i just had difficulty understanding your comments as related to a performance capabilities and then reverting back to 17 inch wheels. and after all that has been said maybe i did get lucky with these tyres, and as i have previously stated i personally think they are a little noisy, and PLEASE if you can recommend a better tyre for around the same money or at least a tyre company to talk to i would be very grateful i think from memory i paid a little under $1000 AU for the 4. so if you have an option please pass it on, because truly after all the bagging out i,m getting worried about buying these tyres again, and im not so stupid as to stick with these tyres if i can get a name brand for equivalent money. please dont assume this is a turn around in attitude from me, but i have to face the reality that maybe these tyres do have varying quality issues, maybe while getting established they were more diligent with quality control. so again at the risk of repeating myself, if there is another cost effective option i would certainly want to consider it please understand my comments were not directed at your opinion on the tyres, but at your assessment that going back to 17 inch wheels was a performance upgrade Last edited by bigwave2255; 05-19-2012 at 07:33 AM. |

I have not had any problems with my Atturo Tires. They are staggered 19s. I paid a little under 500 for all 4 and 40 to have them mounted. Just my 2 cents. Of course if money was no option I would prefer Michelin's.

I haven't had any problems with my Atturo Tires. They are staggered 20's. They came with my matte black rims and will probably order more when it's time.
