so are there still options to control the heater?????
Yes!You should have a remote that comes with it.

Just to confuse the issue further, my 4.8is has the auxiliary heater with remote, and I can also use it via my nav screen via the aux heating option. Not sure how it operates and how it derives its fuel, being a diesel webasto in a petrol car,,,,,,,it was a really expensive optional extra here in the UK on the 4.8.

Have you located the heater? Is it inside the engine bay like on the Diesels? Can you see a small exhaust outlet on the left front beneath the car?Maybe yours works with petrol or may simply just be electric!

Webasto made both diesel and petrol versions of their heater.

From your links ,it shows that Webasto did do both versions(although the 24v Diesel version is not for X5!,but did they sell the petrol one to Bmw?Maybe someone here can confirm this!
