"The rest of the story"

I was getting nervous about the transmission going knowing it is at least a $4000 repair. Then I had visions of paying that $4K and then the motor checks out. So my son put it on Craigslist and it sold to a guy in Costa Rica for $7000!

I told him of all the outstanding issues. The X5 had 257,000 miles on it when I handed over the keys. The Costa Rican will come out on top. There is a 100% duty on imported cars. So he payed $7K to bring it in. However with low cost labor they are probably going to go through that car and bring it up to pretty new. Think all the 1950's Chevorlets that the Cubans keep running.
He'll sell it for maybe $30K in the local market. The customer gets a high end car without paying $100K for a new one.

The transaction was easy, he had an agent in the US. Met them at a bank, got cash and we took the car to port of Tampa......

I'll have to go visit it one day and take it for a spin!

I loved my '01 3.0 Sport--like yours but Jet Black. Bought it new but Labor Day '10 I got t-boned and it was totaled. I only had 104K miles on it. That was the 2nd major accident I walked away from in it--X5s are unbelievable when it comes to safety. Congrats.

Wow that's pretty cool! I'll bet that's about $5k more than you would have received on trade in from BMW
