Over the last few months had occasional battery failures (dead battery symptoms). Usually occurred when or immediately after son has driven the X5. Figured it was something he did..

This last time, the battery failed to recharge with a 2 amp charger overnight... Hmm.

Pulled the battery and noticed it was a Duralast AGM size H8 with a Dec 2016 date code..This was an expensive battery when new. Kind of surprised it failed so soon.

I replaced it with a FRESH (Nov 2020) Ever Start H8 non-AGM battery from Walmart.
...$129 +12 core..

Back in business.

Just had the same experience in my X5. Old battery date code was 04/16 I think. Went with Sams Club, Duracell FC H8 at $121.42. 4 years is about all you get out of a battery with the electrical demands of modern BMW's I think. I now consider it a service item for 4 years replacement.

Though our E70 does a much better job of maintaining a battery with all its monitors, shuts off various systems and the like to maintain ability to start. I've left that truck for a month and it starts right up.

Replaced my power steering pump with a rebuilt Bosch from FCP. 6 months after replacing it with some off brand, out of warranty piece of junk. Low frequency growling/rattling at low idle is gone again. Hopefully this one lasts longer, but if it doesn't, lifetime warranty.

Trying to catch a break anymore, seems like fishing without a line!

That part that is gripping though, is that the E53 drives so well. Most other vehicles in its class are ruled out IMO.

The standard gearbox makes it very hard for me to part ways. But I can’t lie and say it hasn’t crossed my mind. And now, I am so ridiculously committed, to let her go will probably be giving her away.

First real snow of the season here in South Lake Tahoe. Took my daughter out for some good snow driving lessons through the neighborhood. 2001 3.0i E53 performed amazingly well in 1-2 feet of fresh snow.

It's supposed to snow this weekend so I might get to try them out.
Have to say I like the pirelli's a lot, not much noise at all and good grip!

That looks familiar:

That was from a single overnight storm on the exact middle of spring in central Wisconsin 2018.
