273,000+ km and the windows work nicely... though the key fob doesn't unlock the doors and the steering column doesn't adjust. Will fix both issues soon. Starting to feel like I lucked out, since it looks like this engine was a rebuild, or a newer engine dropped in the vehicle. There's yellow marker in lots of places that lead me to believe the engine was taken out of the car at the very least, and a lot of parts are new, with barcodes still intact.

Also noticed that I've got a slow seep on the crimped part f the vanos oil pipe... but that's $60 in parts and maybe an hour under the hood, so I won't complain.

One nice thing about Texas is only one window is going up and down and I don't even use drive-throughs that much.

I removed the 3.0i fender emblems and added a can of liqui-moly injector cleaner to the gas... Plasti dipping the peeling chrome kidneys black is next.

Changed Oil & Filter on N62

This happened on 12/24/13 & I'm just remembering to mention what I learned on my first oil change on the N62 engine (with oil filter below the engine).

Thanks to those that posted the DIY and the tools required (24mm socket for oil filter lid, 6mm hex bit for drain in oil filter lid, and 8 mm hex bit for oil pan drain bolt).

My 85 325e, 91 735iL & 95 525iT had the correct tools in the trunk/tailgate tool kit to do an oil & filter change...and my 97 740iL & 99 540iT had everything too except the 36mm socket to loosen the oil filter lid.

Unfortunately I didn't have a 24mm socket nor did I have a 6mm bit socket...so I went to trusty old Sears. But I discovered that my 15/16 socket works as well as the 24mm socket, and my T50 torx bit socket works as well as an 8mm bit socket, and my T40 torx bit socket works as well as the 6mm bit socket. So I returned the 24mm to Sears...but I kept the 6mm bit socket since I actually used it (wish I had thought about trying out the T40 first ).

And I must confess that I do prefer the top side oil filter location that BMW was using in the previous decades. Its so much easier only having to undo one thing on the underside of the car...instead of 3 things (like on the N62)

Again, tools I found that work on the N62 are:
  • 15/16 socket or 24mm socket to undo oil filter lid
    • -
  • T40 torx or 6mm hex bit socket to open drain plug in oil filter lid
    • -
  • T50 torx or 8mm hex bit socket to open oil pan drain plug
    • -

Replaced my drivers side door handle carrier. I had bought one from Amazon and won't ever do that again. The rear hex bolt wouldn't line up with the lock cylinder. I had to take out the plastic sleeve to get more angle on the bolt to make it work.

Tomorrow should be rear airbag suspension and an oil change.

I sent an express envelope of feces to BMW NA's HQ. They think that we're what's in the envelope, so I thought that they should have one of us in their face. /:-{D

Literally with the exception of Nissan, I have always gotten more than I would have asked for.

Mine has nowhere that many miles but has been in Az. it's entire life & (biting tongue, crossing fingers, toes & eyes as I type) has no window or other issues currently.
Funny enough, my only non-BMW over the last two decades was '95 Nissan Pathfinder. Still have it with 189,600 miles on it. Speedometer died 300 miles after the warranty ran out. Told them I wasn't going to pay for a stealer to install it.They sent a new one to me, and I installed it.

You're extremely lucky, Google E53 windows and you'll see that nearly everyone has replaced ALL of their regulators at least once, if not three times.

I understand stupid designs, but when BMW has them, they stick with it and then blame their customers. I'm done with them. I wish them nothing but a horrible future.
