Added to the list. Thanks. Though I think the CCA rating is actually 760 CCA (SAE), though I could be wrong.

The 61-21-7-586-962 p/n is the correct OE replacement (sorry for my error in the original post, I've fixed it now). It retails for $199.99, so as expected, the dealer charged you over retail. It is an Exide standard battery (wet) and not an AGM battery. The 61-21-7-594-976 p/n however is a DEKA (East Penn Manufacturing) AGM battery and used in the E70 X5's. As of 1/2010 it is the stock battery for X5's. It will fit the E53 X5 if you want to use it. It retails for $269.00.

It seems to be an additional part number for the replacement OEM spec battery, with 720 CCA, and a 90 Ah rating (roughly calculates to about 150 min RC) according to these specs...

Yup, I received one from my local dealer as well. They probably marked all their service/parts costs up 20% before they sent them out..

I'm just the opposite. I'll probably go with the Exide Global Extreme since I can get it within 10 miles while the Deka I can only find around 45 miles away. Few places want to ship batteries anymore.

I can't seem to find the Exide Global Extreme battery you referenced on line or locally..

Duralast 49L

You can also use a Duralast 49L. Speced for a Touareg, bolts right up ( same vented design). A little more CCA and $99.

Over the weekend I went to Pep Boys and bought a Bosch Group 49 battery for $99 for my 3.0i.
850CCA/1000CA, 140RC, 3 year replacement warranty. I previously ran the same battery for 4 years with no problems. It looks a little different now, but it has the same SKU number.

05 4.4 E53: I replaced my original battery the other day with the Autozone H8-DLG. Have a faster idle now, along with a "sevice soon" and faster clock (10min in 2 days).

Do I need to have the battery registered if it's a comparable replacement? I'm thinking the battery itself is junk.

Thanks

E53 batteries do not have to be registered.
