I see some here don't understand one of my favorite sayings, "you have to pay to play". Having a 6,000lbs. SAV with 300hp and the handling of a sports car is too cool! It's awesome. It's playing ![]() A machine of this caliber will obviously require more attention than the F car sitting next to it. Maybe some of the people that wouldn't do it again are done working on cars and over it. Or maybe they really don't enjoy driving and are more focused on getting from piont A to B. I have plans to purchase another X5, but will most likely come home with an E70 with a third row. If I happen to come across a clean manual E53, I might also entertain that idea too. |

. Anyway you mentioned lotus . I will have an exige after my kids graduate, mark my words! I just can't justify it right now with the wife. Every time I go to C&C I just sit and stare at them. They to me are the ultimate bang for the buck! Having never driven one, I do believe this would be the ultimate car for me and the closest I'll ever be to owning a super car.

There is a plus and negative side to any vehicle purchase. Each of us determine what will be considered on either side. If the plus side wins than the vehicle is a good value. When I purchase a used vehicle a positive is that it is far less expensive than a new one. The negative is that it is more likely to have things fail. What that cost will be is largely unknown. Having been a part of the forum for some time I would never suggest a potential new X5 owner ask about the repair costs to keep an E53 on the road. Not saying there is nothing that will help but it is too easily lost in the bombardment of anecdotal bias.

Similar thing happened to me at a city inspection drive through in 2010. I handed the paperwork, and the lady says, "This is the wrong paperwork. This says it's for an '04." I said, "Yeah. This is an '04?" I was as confused as she was. She goes, "Daaaamn, child. I thought this was a '10! You keep it looking good!"
![]() I just drove it 1,200 miles round trip this week. The only trouble I had was with the Winfield, TX police department and a ticket for +10MPH over.

During the last inspection he joked that at 11 yrs old and 185k miles it looks like I must store it in a nitrogen filled container.

I've seen pickups passing in the right lane, on wet roads no less, in the D/FW area. I drive in my mirrors during rush hour.
