so swapped out the summer fronts to the rears, and left winters on the fronts....end result...same wobble...i think the lower control arms could be the cause...although they are new...they are the only thing different from what i can remember....might just be crap quality....

I had a wobble at high speeds and it was coming from my front wheels.
I replace my rotors and breaks and it went away. It came back again and I had to replace the roto's again, this time with a better brand. I actually replaced all 4 back and front and I have no wobble at the moment. |

Make sure you properly preload the control arm bushings if/when you change them again. (and if you didn't do it the first time it could be the cause) Simply have the X5 sitting at ride height on it's wheels when you tighten the bolt through the bushing.

That's what i'm thinking it is....those were the last things i did to the car before i starting getting this wobble....but are the bushings shot now?
so the truck should be lifted, loosen the bolts a bit....then lower to ride height, then crank the bolts to the spec torque...is that right? Last edited by gitchies; 07-15-2011 at 10:56 PM. |

You can look at the bushings first to see if they look stressed and are tearing yet, but a braking induced wobble indicates the damage is already done. I've seen on here a few times where someone replaced OEM arms with the cheap eBay ones and caused issues. The cheap ones are just that, cheap. If you used the cheap no name arms I'd consider doing them over with Febi arms or OEM.

yeah i'll have to check....had the wobble....redid my brakes thinking they were bad...i mean they were warped a bit, it never wobbled...after brakes, my uncle noticed the bolt for the controla arms weren't tight...so tightend them, but not under load. wobble i have is mainly on highway speeds, no braking wobble....but we'll see...gonna have to wait til monday....argh

So an update: loosend the bolts for the lower control arm...then let down the vehicle to ground level...tighten them, up....go for a drive....a little better, not much...prob the same....
take it back in today...they inspect everything, go over everything when this started to happen. i did the cv boots and lower control arms a few weeks ago and thats when this all started...should have left it alone..... nothing is out of place, everything is nice and tight....only think i can think of steering rack? wtf....i know i have some play inthe steering wheel, but gesh...can it be? i'm gonna have to take this one to the dealer i think now....there or to another car lot to trade in...i can't take this anymore!!!! |
