Yikes. My Indy quoted 650 for valve cover gaskets, Morristown BMW quoted 2100!!
Time for a DIY. Is the N62 much different than the M62?

its definitely harder than my n54 because you have to do 2 sides ill try to find a diy for you. as far as getting help from indys and dealers consider this to swap pads on nissan all around indy would take 100 to do the job for my bmw they would charge a little more which is 180 to virtually do the exact same thing! so my understanding of all of it is this they see something thats expensive and mark up shit for no apparent reason.

Yeah i did mine not too long ago...mine only had 58,000 miles when done...but its the age factor too, mine is an 02. Vcg and all the gormets.....its not hard, but a lot of time to take everything apart it seems.....did my plugs while he was at, since most of it was already take apart....half way done at that point

thanks TEMA, you've been a big help. I feel like an idiot for not doing spark plugs myself right now. just saw how easy it is...

as far as gasket i read up just now and it does seem doable. for plugs and many other things actually torque wrench is a must have. so instead of paying indiys or dealer buy yourself a nice toolset owning a bimmer youll need it sooner or later. IF YOU OPT TO DIY TAKE NOTES AND PICS AND REPORT BACK!
