Who makes a quicker steering rack?

I am not real excited with the steering ratio in the 4.8IS. I am wondering who has done a swap to a quicker steering ratio and where you got it.

I find myself always having to steer more then I would like to for safe aggressive driving.

I don't know of any company making a quick steering rack for the X5 without going cu$tom.
One solution, that may not be legal though, is to install a steering quickener on the steering column. Dividing ratios of 1.5 and 2.0 are availables. But, the steering column needs to be cut and spined adapters welded to the shaft.

I installed one on my E30 when I was doing rallys. The ratio went from 4 turns lock to lock to 2 turns lock to lock.

I assume a rack from a 5 series may fit or be very close with rack length and mounting points. Then we would just have to know the differences in lock to lock.

This think need to steer quicker, I always understeer becasue I cant turn the wheel fast enough sometimes in low speed areas.

The 5'ers only used racks on the 6 cyl models. They're not up to the duty on the X5. The v8's used recirc ball, but that would entail much more customization to swap to the M5 recirc ball system. Either way you're asking for trouble as you're increasing the risk of rollover.

Get some urethane bushings, a more aggressive alignment, and camber plates (not sure if you can with air suspension) and you'll notice much better turn-in and increased mid-corner stability.
