I'm not sure if I completely agree with you.

I just rebuilt my ZF5HP24 that had never had an oil/filter change after 10 years and 149,000 miles. It looked beautiful inside and only required 2 o-rings and a bearing to be replaced.

I Only Quote the words of the specialist that replaced mine. He has been in the business for 30 years and I dont think there is anything he doesnt know about auto transmissions.... Every time I've been over to his shop ( 11 bays) he has had BMW's /Landrover with both the GM and ZF boxes in bits.

Where did you get this done at? I have a spare 5HP24 out an E38 740 and I'd like to be able to find a shop locally in case I have any issues w/ the rebuild. Considering the price of this kit Europeantransmissions and..., it's worth a shot.

Hey m5james, I am just down the road in Bothell lol, small world.

I did it myself.

I was about to go down that same route because those versions are more abundant, however... I contacted ZF directly, and spoke with a very helpful gentleman named Steve in Chicago. He informed me that although there are many trannys under the 5HP24 umbrella, there are still variations from car to car, such as gear ratios, different torque converters, etc. & that a E38 version would probably work mechanically, but throw a bunch of codes.

He referred me to an old ZF mastermind named Klaus at http://thectsc.com

I talked to a few shops, didn't feel very confident in any of them.
Clutch plates in mine looked great, I used the basic $200 rebuild kit, got it from Transtar in Lynnwood.

Hey James,

If you're looking for a reputable BMW mechanic in the LA area, you need to go see Vic at Eurowurx in Burbank. eurowürx - the truth in performance

This guy knows his stuff, is honest, professional and his prices are very fair. He used to work at the dealer many moons ago and knows these cars inside/out.

He's works on my car and I wouldnt take it anywhere else ever again.

Good luck!
