Anyone know if its okay to plug the little gap up with rtv silicone specified for water pump and thermostat housing? also noticed rad cap was loose, and was so on the drive home. could that mean anything as to why it ran fine? |

the v8 s have an electric pump that pushes water around even when You first start it not sure about the 6 ,change the thermastate and the tank they crack and there hard to tell if there bad also ur climate control seems to be going bad its in the passenger footwell to the left in the heater houseing ,i ts metal and has alot of long points on it .The thermastate sticking on You ,I would change that first then the hoses then the tank,If the caps off it wont over heat thats how YOU got it home

Yea not sure how that RTV will hold up without compression. Maybe RTV and a hose clamp, wide one, at best this would be temporary if it even works.
As long as you weren't smoking, white, I think you just have an issue with the coolant leaking, and that's it. I would replace the T-stat, upper rad hose, and any other hoses you see in bad shape, in one shot. Then see if you expansion tank is leaking. Search for some DIYs and do it yourself. Lots of good info here. Will be cheaper and done right, hopefully. |

Get a new rad hose and call it a day, putting RTV won't do any good on a pressurized hose and will only trigger a disaster.

I don't understand the thread title. Why is it possibly a seized engine?
Skip the sealant. You can't call someone a shade tree mechanic and then propose using sealant If the rad cap is loose there is no pressure. Tighten it up and see if you have a coolant leak. You can definitely overheat with the cap loose since the boiling point is lower with no pressure The spiky thing in the footwell is the final stage resistor. It controls hvac fan speed, not cooling. Your ac isn't connected to your cooling system except that it can absorb heat

Be sure and get a pressure test. Without the system being pressurized you'll never know where you're leaks are.

Alright.
You drove how far knowing you had a coolant leak? That's just asking for problems! Not a smart choice. So you said the radiator was leaking. Had a shop replace it, then got upset when there was another problem. Now you want to put silicone on the hose to fix it those radiator hoses are cheap. Just fix it right. And seized means the engine will not turn, you dot have a seized engine. I think it's time for you to find another shop. Let them pressure test the system and check for a blown head gasket. And tell them another shop replaced the radiator and then said the engine was done. Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express |
