The major difference between the Euro & US bumper carrier (metal beam inside the rear plastic bumper cover) is an additional reinforcing metal plate on the US version. It will interfere with the Westfalia (BMW supplier for the factory hitch / tow bar) set-up.

This is why you have the Euro part number part in the US hitch set-up (new retrofit). Otherwise you take an angle grinder and cut the plate out and Weatherite or Rustoleum paint the parts.

JCL's is the best way to do it, but you could use POR 15 or other rust 'converting' chemical, then painting with some spray paint (I like the new 'hammered' look paints, but basic gloss black is probably a good choice).

You will need that bumper carrier. The stock US or current one won't work with that hitch.

I'd rather be safe than sorry so got the carrier and after my payment for the harness kit (which included the module) was refunded by Passport BMW I also got the harness. Now I need to find the mount that has the cover.

Hitch came. I called a PC place, they want 30 bucks to sand blast and powercoat. No brainer, I am taking it today.

Definitely a no brainer. I don't see how they can write up the invoice for $30, let alone do the sandblast and powder coat for that! Great deal!

I expected it to be over 100.

The way they make it so inexpensive is doing alot at the same time so I have to wait at least 10 days is the down side. I am ok with that.
