Drive it home. It may defrost on the drive home, if you blast the heat inside.

Also depends how cold it is outside, and if you park in a garage or not.

Drive it home!

thats what i'll do. Its 13 degrees (feels like -5) here. And of course my $800 parking pass does not get me indoor parking--i'm stuck outside

it happened to me this morning, the trick to open the door is wash the door with hot water by the door handle & on the glass window right on top of the handle thn try unlocking & locking with the key several times and it should open, u gotta do it fast so the hot water dont freeze up after it cools off. thn when u open it dry all the area where u poured water on real good and spray wd40 by the henge area. if u open it and the door wont shut and it keep bouncing back just hold the door shut and press the lock button.. that should lock the door, but u might get stuck inside, just exist from the back door usually the back door opens from the inside with no problem... if that dont work just enter ur X from the trunk thats wat i did last winter

it's happened to me to oa few times. just replaced the door opener as it had broken. hopefully wont happen again.

that sucks. but how about when you pull up to the dunkin donuts and the window is frozen shut, so you have to open the door to get your coffee ( like a damn hobo) then the lock freezes and the door wont close! thats what happened to me. picture mr fancy pants driving his bimmer with one hand holding the door closed. when i got to work i pulled in inside to let it thaw.

i did give it a good squirt with wd40 when it warmed up the next day. i was bit disconcerted to note that most of it seemed to drip down onto the running boards. forecast for below freezing again this weekend so i will open up the grommet and spray it liberally inside and see how it goes.
Thanks

Happend to me a couple of time on very cold day, like -25 celsius. Once I couldn't open the door after I left the X5 at the airport for 2 weeks on a cold winter, when I got back from Mexico, it was really cold and because I pulled too hard I broke the mechanism. I had a local garage to fix it for 200$ they had to order new mechanism + the door handle which was broken but they also had to paint the handle. When the door freeze I simply get in by another door, start the engine and let the truck warm up for 15 min and then the door open normally.

Just happened to me this afternoon. Was -3°F. Didn't have internet till now since I was driving but I figured the mechanism froze. Blasted the heat on the door. Got to work, and the door unlocked. Strange design, I feel that this should be an all metal, mechanical system for minimal failure.
