Each one to their own and I have the same opinion of most here, but if you want to go ahead with it,then you dont need any mods!Just get wheels with the ET (OFFSET) as close to OE as possible and the corrrect size tyres and the 24" will bolt straight on with no mods.

Anyway ,I took some pics of the X5 with 24"in a local shop ,to give you another idea
Thank you for taking some pictures for me. I do like it but I don't think it will be worth the ride quality and running the risk of distroying the rims or worse. I do like those wheels though.

Kinda like adding cow horns to the hood and a fox tail.
Boss Hawg disagrees. Lol.

I could see oe 20's on mine maybe 21's but its good to see other people's attempt at bling.

Nothing has been done before putting them on, the only thing i noticed is that the innerside of the frontwheels did touch the plastic mudguards closest to the engine a little bit when doing a full turn left or right.

And needed longer bolts (50mm long, m14x1.5) for the wheels, maybe i will buy a longer set, 55 mm, because it gives me a better feeling . Dont know why.

The originals, that i use for my winterset, are to short.

Pirelli P Zero Nero is $316 per, don't forget that most tire shops will charge redickulous mounting fees for 25 series tires, and some shops will assume no lialibity for damaged wheels in the process.
