There are a couple nice options for 4.6is on cars.com.. A few under 60k miles, which i believe for the year is pretty damn good.

Used BMW X5 - in 07924 Area - on Cars.com

oh and actually..

this one; 2003 BMW X5 4.6is, $19,995 - Cars.com

I found the exact car on my manheim login, and it shows that it sold in Manheim PA Auction for $17,500 at the auction..

He saw that one. 2 problems with it from the pics. One the seat is effffed up hard core. Look at the drivers bottom bolster by the door. Holy shit. My car at 80K miles does not have anything near that. So, it either does not have original 50K miles. Or, it has 50K worth of miles, and lots of short trips.

So think of it like this. 50K miles, in 10 years, is 5k miles per year, which is 416 miles per month, which is 100 miles per week. To cause that type of damage to the seat, imagine how many times the driver got in and out of the car? Short trips are not good for engine and transmission longevity.

Yeah, I'm surprised it was at auction. When I talked to the dealer, they said it was a consignment. The car didn't belong to them, but a local around the area. Well now that I know what their bottom line is, I'm out. I don't want to spend that money on that car. Just look at the damage to the body work? WTH, jealous Ex-GF take a bat to the damn thing? Just to get the dents removed you are looking at $150/dent at least. So long as there wasn't any paint work. IMHO they paid too much for that E53.

I wouldn't say the seat is "effed up hardcore", but rather the original owner didn't pay too much attention to it getting in and out of the truck.

OP, are you in a position to buy the X without selling your Audi? You should be. If not, get that Audi sold before you even start your search. IMO.

I have cash and I can buy another car without selling the Audi. I just don't want to. Do I need this X? No, but do I want it? ABSO FREAKIN' Loutly!!! But good news is last night, a gentleman bought the Audi. So now I can focus on one thing. Well that and watching the Stock market just take a beating, but that's besides the point, lol

You got lucky, although you have a high mileage X, it was taken care of by a BMW mechanic, aka, miles at this point shouldnt matter in your case. The problem with buying a high mileage X5 from a non-BMW mechanic is that we really don't know what repairs have been made.

To the OP, i figure within your price range you will be looking at 90k miles and up. Luckily you are handy with doing many repairs yourself.

The first listing is nice, but in Imola Red, the second one I saw on e-bay, but I think it sold, and the last one is the one I am currently trying to work a deal on. I have a deposit on it, but just waiting for my guy to get there to check it out.

High mileage I don't mind. I figure worse that can happen to the motor, the Timing chain guides fail, so I will replace them, and with the tranny, I will need to replace it. All doesn't sound too bad so long as I can get it at a good price. Especially if the X is a one owner, then its a bit better.

OHHH and ep, that Red on Red is just too much lol. Its almost like putting royal red carpet in your bedroom. It looks great the first few weeks. You feel good when you look at it, then after the "New" wears off, you just want out. That or it reminds you of an 80's discotech and you just wanna run a line of ski on the floor and yell " Say hello to ma little fren...!"
