I had to put a new ac cover in my 4.8 and it was a PITA working with the copper springs and buttons.

An '02 X in fair condition with that mileage has a KBB private seller value of $5800. That's $3800 to put towards the list of repairs, which seems to be on the low side of what it will cost to bring it up from it's poor condition to fair.

regardless guys, he has plenty of vehicles to pound the shit out of and DD. This was bought as a project. Based on his posts/threads on the other msg board we are both in he is not incompetent when it comes to BMW or auto's in general. He bought it as a project/beater knowing he had alot of work to do. I agree with the guys who are saying he saved another X from the scrap. We all know how crappy these vehicles can and will be. The least we can do is not criticize but maybe offer some insight into his issues.

This is gunna be a cool project car!

If that car was in fair-good shape, you'd get around $10,000 (as someone in this thread recently did). You can get this car up to a normal (i.e. non-enthusiast) "fair-good" standard (i.e. the $10,000 private party value point) with far less than the $8,000 you saved in the purchase. In fact, I'm willing to bet you could probably do this with less than $4,000 if you're creative. In other words, you're in a position to flip and make great money (although I'm sure that's not what you're interested in doing); I'm merely saying this to point out that this car doesn't have to be a money pit to set it right.

Start your parts search at car-part.com and eurodepotusa.com; you'll be surprised at the sweet deals you can find.

Buy a new (used) hood, bumper, and rear lower hatch from your local LKQ or similar junk yard. I picked up a replacement front bumper for my pre-facelift E53 from a local junkyard for something like $150; and that was 3 years ago (I'm willing to bet you could find something at a lower price than that)!

Good luck and congrats!
