Got Dinan?

Looking for help from the Dinan experts.

I have the Dinan air filter on my 4.6, it's unknown to me how long it's been on the truck. I'm sure it could use a cleaning, should I just purchase a K+N cleaning kit? Any tips?

Otherwise I'll replace it. Any leads on a brand new Dinan filter?

Last question, does anyone know of the correct aftermarket filter to take its place? I really don't need my air filter to say Dinan if its going to cost huge scratch.

Sorry for the dust, I cleaned the bay after taking pics.

"performance" air filters are sucker plays. None of them are appreciable benefits.

Buy a stock filter and change it every oil change and your flow rates will remain nice and high- and the engine protected.

Use an oiled filter you WILL risk fouling your MAFs over time.

The stock filter is a flat style, not sure it will work in the Dinan intake, if it does then I will go that route.

I don't agree with any of that. These filters add dyno-proven power; not a huge amount, but they do work. As far as fouling the MAF sensor, I've had a K&N filter on two different cars from new, and both now have over 160k with no issues.

You simply need to follow the K&N cleaning kit instructions when cleaning and re-oiling at normal service intervals. Don't over-oil.

I would check with Dinan if the K&N cleaning/oil kit is what they recommend.

I would just measure that pipe, and buy an oil less filter to fit.

I would imagine that being a fabric filter, you could just wash it with any "detergent". I've saturated a washable filter in a simple green solution and scrubbed/hosed it down afterwords. Let it air dry completely and re-charged it. No ill effects. (this was on my mustang)

On the debate between paper vs fabric filters:

This Site is really informative on a whole lot of fronts.

I have had Dinan cold air box for 8 years. I have replaced the filter several times with a new Dinan filter to be sure to maintain the gains in HP and Torque claimed by Dinan. I have cleaned the filter sometimes but it is easy to put too much oil on the filter and cause a mass air flow sensor failure which costs between $150-200 to correct if you do it yourself. If you haven't seen a new K&N filter and how much oil is on it I suggest buying a new Dinan filter. Next time you will know how much to oil it and go from there.

This ^ and this..........you could buy a new Dinan filter and install it. Keep and clean the old one and just rotate them. Follow the K&N recharge instructions and you don't have to worry about the MAF. Besides Dinan filters are made by K&N ....................Phil

so the blue Dinan cone style air filter DOES need to be oiled? OOPS.
I cleaned mine very well then installed dry.

guess I best be buying a new DRY filter or filter charger kit ASAP.

PS: I took a few measurements tonight for the AEM website's find a filter feature. I believe the compatiable part is AEM's 21-2075DK. Anyone able to confirm that?
I use AFE pro dry S filter where no oil is needed at all.
