Don't be so sure about what the shop told you. I suggest you check at another shop. You didn't mention if they find an error code or not. Is there any seen damage, oil leakage in the tranny box?. What type of fluid you used when you flushed the tranny? did you top filled the tranny (topping till the fluid start to get out of the filling opening and the tranny temp is at near 50 degree). Recheck oil level. If there is a problem in the transmission you definitely will get an error code. see the code meaning. it might be related to a solenoid, valve body, incorrect shifting, torque convert fault etcccc. Don't go with the most expensive solution unless you are sure it is the right and only solution

Thats the thing he didnt even plug it in he took it a drive and said to needs gearbox re built
There is no visable sign of any damage
When the oil was changed everything came from bmw filter oil and gasket
i filled the tranny till it ran out of the filler hole started the car and cycled through the gears
I let the car run until it was 50 degree stopped it and topped up with another 3\4 of a litre

I think im going to have to find someone else who can check this out but being in N.Ireland they seem to be far and few

If i were going to start checking diffs'shafts'transfer case'torque converter what do i need to look for and where is the best place to start

You need to start by reading fault code or codes at an experienced and reputable shop, then the problem will be solved accordingly

Ok so i went to bmw to get codes the codes are:
008d signal line disturbed
0092 gong tone (T1)
5f43 transmission control interface
4f4b gear monitoring
4f5a shift monitoring
5f3a transfer case malfunction
4f7a signal from transfer box faulty
54c6 vtg oil wear

Of course bmw say needs gear box and transfer case £6000
has anyone had these fault codes before and what do they mean & what was the outcome

Im thinking about rebuilding the transfer case my self can you buy a full kit for this ?
Or would i be better doing both?

thanks in advance

Have you checked your voltage yet? Click link in my sig, unlock your OBC and monitor voltage while driving. Seems like you have quite a few different issues, which can all be caused by a bad alternator or voltage regulator.

Yes you got different codes and some are not related to tranny. I go with SlickGT1. Check battery voltage and alternator. A bad battery or alternator means the part generating those codes is not receiving a normal supply voltage. it can throws then many error codes by error.
