I wish mine was. Tried the left turn/right turn thing and did nothing.

I've had my '04 X5 for three weeks. Drove it home (Oklahoma) from Houston. No issues at all. Get it home and I'm starting to have all sorts of stuff. The trifecta lights have come on three times. This last time it laid down on me on the highway. I'm not sure it's not an alternator. It wouldn't start. Had some battery but eventually wouldn't turn over. I know I need to have it scanned but it's the weekend and there's snow on the ground here. Plus I can't get it to drive right now. I've charged the battery but if I start it and let it idle for a short time it goes into the mode, radio shuts off and stuff starts shutting down. Oh yeah....previous owner just replaced the battery before I bought it. I did open it up to check that too.

Now why would someone go and replace a battery before selling the car? Either they were hoping it would fix the problem, or they were hoping the car will start and run just long enough to sell the car.

Well, I'm not sure if this was the issue prior to the battery being replaced but I unlocked the OBD test and my voltage running is at 11.7. I'm thinking an alternator is in order.

I don't think the alternator is the problem with a reading of 11.7 volts while the engine is running, I know the alternator is the problem.

Well today i checked my alternator if it was Good or not. I started the car BMW x5 4.6is 2002 with 140,000 miles on it . Car the voltage on the cluster reads about 13.5 and the i took out the negative on the battery terminal while the car was on idle and the car stayed ON and i check the voltage while the batt neg (-) is not connected and it reads 13.5 still and i so the "trifecta" symbols SHM

Any idea why the "TRIFECTA" light was triggered ????

You're lucky you didn't blow something. You don't test the alternator that way anymore. That was old school long ago. That's a no no these days with computers and such. At least that's what my good friend/mechanic tells me.
