Timing Chain Guides - time to failure

Guys, what year does this apply to? I currently have a 2004 N62 4.4i with ~118miles on it. The Wife drives it most -so this is a common thing for the N62?

Any DIY around?

Short answer is yes - it is very common, from what i understand everybody has to replace them eventually due to a flaw in the design and chain guides rarely live past 140K - 160K miles...Depending on your skill level this can be DIYed, but i would rate it about 9 or even 10 out 10 on the difficulty level as you have to take apart a lot to get to it...

I am sure some of the guru on this forum can elaborate more on the subject though...

OK, I have replaced the VANOS on my 530i so if its at that level then I should be good. Any directions on where I can find a good DIY on the process? I have a list of things I have waiting to get done so I may as well add that while I am in there.

Does this apply to both 4.4 and 4.6?
