So is this something you currently have a problem with or are you just letting the forum know of the problem and if they experience this problem, to check their new parts for defects?

Thanks for posting this! Many E39 owners report high oil consumption after switch to CCV cold weather version on M54. Whereas I've talked to a few on this forum and they are fine. I'm guessing any reports of higher oil consumption after switching out the CCV assembly would point to a faulty valve, so I will keep this in mine after I replace my system.

Keep your fingers crossed my valve is assembled properly, I'm even debating checking it before putting it in, wonder how tough they are to open.

I have also seen the dipstick tube drain pipe clogged where the lower ccv hose connects to it. Have to remove the dipstick and heat with torch to clean the small drain passages.
I also completely stay away from aftermarket or "oem" valves. Dealer only IMO. Its not worth the risk. Plus you get 2 years warranty on parts and labor even if you install it.

There is an actual updated cold climate dipstick guide tube which should be installed at the time of cold weather CCV updated parts.

There is a BMW SIB from 2009 that I posted recently with the part number. Not replacing the tube as well at time of cold weather parts install may not yield optimal performance of the oil separator.

I am thinking about opening up my cold weather CCV that I just bought before install to be sure the diaphragm is assembled correct. I also have the cold weather dipstick guide tube to make my CCV replacement complete according to BMW standard

Spot on Ricky. Here's a copy of SIB 110803 in case anyone is interested. Replacing the oil separator without the upgraded dipstick guide tube most likely will not yield long term success. Also, make sure you get the cold climate version as outlined in the SIB which includes part numbers. I replaced mine last month using the attached SIB as a guideline and no problems in subfreezing weather so far. Hang on folks, we're getting blasted by cold weather again this week!

Even here in Dallas, I found "mayo" on the oil dipstick last weekend. And I have a 60 mile daily commute that always gets the oil up to temperature for 20 minutes!
