How would these work together? If this solves the issues, I'd rather go with this than putting another time bomb.... but then this might just be a bomb with a longer fuse.... has anyone tried the catch can solution?

3.0 vs 4.4

If I were You do it all ,its located under the intake kind of a pain .It will be worth it!!! the v8 and 6cyls are alot different the v8 are located on the back on some and the front on some n62,m62?Your 3.0 is a lot easier to get at . I just noticed ur up in Canada there is a cold weather one for u it has insulation around it kinda like a blanket of foam around it ,hope that helps!

Yeah, there's even a company, expoarts, which carries a complete cold weather CCV kit for $198.

Seafoam and other cleaners go in the crankcase with the oil. They clean where the oil circulates. The CCV doesn't have oil circulating in it, so cleaning is a manual process.

It aint ten outside when this happens though - its usually minus 20 or colder - pretty extreme

When you say "no oil in it it still runs good" what exactly do you mean? That your engine is not using any oil despite having 224,000 miles on the clock?

You could put seafoam in the hose from the cc to the valve, and push it through with an air compressor... no sure if that'd do well on a bmw, though...

So I went to see the mechanic today and we discussed what to do, after I left he started working on it, he`s just sent me a picture - I`m guessing this isnt normal and I`m puzzled how the other guy (who repaired it twice) could miss something like this:
