Agreed. Now to find someone with the skills to do it.

Why would the gloss not hold as well?

Either way, matte or gloss, it will stick if the surface is really clean and not to forget it is wrapped around providing extra grip. Once installed , you can always use a hair dryer to gently heat it to make it stick even more.
So no worries IMO!

I was just wondering for purpose of being more informed, why matte and gloss adhere differently when adhesive is the same.

Matt would tend to be more pouris, meaning less surface area to adhere to. Either way it's all good. This stuff sticks to a wet beer bottle!

I might try and remove my wheel if it's not raining today when I get home .......

This is the opposite of what Admanger posted and I don't understand this either.
It vinyl, I don't see why the adhesive side is more porous or won't bond as well.

The following DIY includes removing the steering wheel. I got the angle wrong in that picture. It works but a better angle is as posted earlier: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ions-pics.html

I suspect there is a confusion here...

The adhesive side of the vinyl is not the issue ( it's the same for whatever 3m vinyl you choose)
The trims on the other hand ,might be either of a very glossy finish or a more porous finish. The vinyl paper in theory should stick better on a dull surface rather than a shinny surface (if both are non-porous).
The "porous" trim , let's call it textured , offers less contact surface for the vinyl to stick to. What people are saying here is that the textured trim is not textured enough for the vinyl not to stick well. Basically , either one, gloss or matte trim the 3M vinyl will do the job very well.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes. Better explained. I'm at work on an iPhone so some of my responses are too short sometimes

OK-------I don't always remember a sentence when I finish reading it but I have no idea how I was supposed to know this was about porous trim. I don't even know what X5 trim is textured or why to bring it up if it doesn't matter.
