I don't know about that. I certainly understood he was venting. BMW doesn't owe him anything. He bought a six year old used car. Take it up with the previous owner. If people suffer from broken clips on their window regulators they can complain all they like. But once they know why the clips break, and continue to slam doors with the glass lowered and not supported, some of us just have less sympathy for them. Sure it would be nice if the clips didn't break. But the purpose of communities like this is to share info and solutions. Being part of this community but ignoring the info seems counterproductive. Another thing that many of us in this community know is that reliability is not at the top of BMW's priority list. This isn't a surprise. It is what it is. I wouldn't vote for BMW spending more development money on reliability issues, since that would make the vehicle more expensive. If I wanted more reliability and was willing to trade off things that BMW does well, I would just buy something else. I wouldn't ask them to change their development priorities.

my last vehicle was "big tahoe" 1996 Chevrolet tahoe with 109k on the clock that I paid $10k for used. I drove it for 11 years, and sold it for $1500... the math is good there, considering I only put tires, breaks, alternator, battery and fuel pump into it. ( there was the snap-ring break on the output shaft of the transfer case, but that was a $5 fix! ) I am honestly hoping that "big black" will give me a similar experience while he's in my garage...

If the driving experience doesn't seem much different to you personally, then you should sell it.

We had a 94 Suburban that was horribly troublesome. Alternators galore, suspension issues transmission issues, it was one thing after the other. I think any major manufacturer is likely to make good & bad cars of the same model. I knew a guy that had A good 80's Jaguar XJ.

It sounds like your experience has been similar to mine. Ive hankered after a BMW for a long time and my first taste has been a major let down Ive had other German brands before and Ive had excellent reliability - I assumed BMW would be a continuation of this which definitely has not been the case I`m convinced some of the posters on this forum are employed by BMW to make excuses.....

I got my 4.8 november 2012, i took apart those ccv and found the same thing... Although it was all the passeneger side of the engine.. I replaced the rubbers anyways as well didnt see any cracks...
As most of you know, maybe you dont around june i put in catch cans on both sides... I took them off to see if id drain anything back in septemeber and there was just tiny amount of oil... I took them off today doing any oil change and heres what i got... I dont drive too far daily, but ive done extensive research and esp with the freeze here in the states ive made sure to get it hot for a decent while daily... Also took a 400 mile total trip last weekend. I drained both catchcans - results below-- This is the drivers side - dont mind the yellow container is stained ![]() Now this is adding pass side... ![]() That was about little less then half the cans worth.. So... The real question is why all the milky crap on pass side but not drivers? Any specific reason or ccv/engine difference? And 2nd is id reccomend all 4.8 do catch cans since even getting it hot during cold months seem to get buildup regardless...

Perhaps its the longer tubing on the passenger side that is causing the water in the oil to condense on the tubing since the tubing is the cold part.
Never had these problems when I had an E34, but back then they just use a PCV valve and not this complex CCV system to address the same issue of blowby from the crankcase.

Thank you very much for your input on this!! your response was more like what I was looking for, not "maybe you should sell your ride" +1000000 for the feeback on the catch can setup!! I think this summer, I am going to install a single catch can setup and see how it goes! thanks again 4.8isX5!
